A Novel Deprescribing Quality Metric for Health Plans: The HEDIS Deprescribing of Benzodiazepines in Older Adults Measure

Dr. Timothy Anderson, MD, MAS is a clinician-investigator in the Division of General Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the lead for Improving Value in Healthcare at the BIDMC Center for Healthcare Delivery Science. Dr. Anderson’s primary research interests are identifying strategies to improve the quality of care delivered to older adults with chronic conditions and to reduce the delivery of low-value prescribing and diagnostic testing.

Dr. Rachel Harrington, PhD is a research scientist at the National Committee for Quality Assurance. She leads the measurement team focused on development and testing of risk-adjusted healthcare resource utilization quality measures. She is responsible for developing strategies to advance health equity in quality measurement, including methods to promote transparency, incentivize reduction of inequities and build more inclusive approaches to measurement. She also serves as the subject matter expert for measures of appropriate medication use in the elderly.
