EQUIPPED for Age-Friendly Prescribing in the Emergency Department

Description: Dr. Vaughan discussed the evaluation of the EQUIPPED medication safety program from its beginnings as a single site quality improvement initiative to a cluster-randomized implementation trial. Since 2012, the EQUIPPED program has been implemented in 20 VA medical centers and 5 non-VA health systems.

Camille Vaughan, MD, MS is Associate Professor and Division Director in the Emory University Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology. She has a joint appointment as the Atlanta Site Director for the Department of Veterans Affairs Birmingham/Atlanta Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC). As a geriatrician and clinical investigator, she focuses on optimizing the care of older adults with multiple chronic conditions.  Current projects involve improving emergency department care for older people, evaluating behavioral therapy for treatment of common urinary symptoms in persons with Parkinson disease, and testing virtual delivery of evidence-based treatment and prevention strategies for common geriatric conditions such as incontinence and falls.
